Most of us have to work with other people to get our own jobs done. And often, we don’t have direct authority over the people we need to help us with our own tasks. So how can we influence others to align their priorities with ours and work towards shared goals?

This workshop explores some of the psychology of persuasion. It gives you the background knowledge and tools you need to influence other people. (Of course, we hope you’ll use these powers for good, and not evil!) We talk about the types of things that can stimulate almost instinctual responses in others, and explain what the implications are for people who need to get others on their side.

  • The differences between manipulation and persuasion, and influence and power
  • The various types of power and the conditions under which they are best used
  • Some fascinating experiments that demonstrate how we tend to respond to certain persuasive triggers
  • Tactics for encouraging others to align their goals with yours
